So you have that burning, stinging pain and the frequent need to pee—that gotta go feeling that just won’t go away—with little urine produced? And you’re here to see what you can do about a urinary tract infection RIGHT NOW, without having to be on antibiotics or perhaps without seeing a doctor?

Before we go any further, stop for a moment and think…

Have you been angry recently? Pissed off and wanting to blame others?

What about feeling a lack of control? Do you have any fears or anxieties related to abandonment or separation?

Really take a moment to reflect on the last day or two before you started to experience your UTI symptoms and be honest with yourself.

If you’re thinking, “YES! A thousand times yes, this is exactly how I have been feeling.” And maybe, “How did you know?!” Stick with me.

A crucial piece in the healing puzzle that many do not consider or are not aware of, is addressing the mental and emotional causes of a urinary tract infection. I approach healing from an understanding that physical symptoms, dis-ease, and illness are manifestations of suppressed emotions and destructive mental patterns that have not yet been integrated by the body.

This perspective links the catalyst for a urinary tract infection to specific emotions and thought patterns that you may have been experiencing just before your UTI symptoms began. If the thoughts and emotions are unnoticed or left unprocessed, your body begins to alert you by producing symptoms like cloudy urine—perhaps with blood, pain, burning, stinging—or a strong urge to urinate with little urine produced.

Before we go any further...Be aware that urinary tract infections are categorized as upper tract infections (dangerous infections that involve the kidneys) or the more common, less dangerous, lower tract infections which involve the bladder, urethra and/or prostate (in men).

Lower tract infections can be treated at home, but do not attempt to cure an upper tract infection at home! Upper tract infections are caused when a lower tract infection is left unresolved and the bacteria makes its way up the urinary canal from the bladder to the kidneys.

If you’re treating a lower tract infection at home, be sure you consult your health care provider immediately should you develop symptoms such as: a mid-grade fever, low back pain, or increasing pain.

If you have a lower tract infection and you’d like to begin linking the cause of your symptoms with your recent emotions and thought patterns, here is a simple exercise for you to get started.

You will need: a piece of paper or a journal and a writing utensil. **An important piece to this exercise is getting thoughts and emotions out of your head and down on a piece of paper where you can see them. It takes the power away from the emotions and thoughts and gives it back to you.

A Reflection & Awareness Exercise for UTI Symptoms:

  • Rate your UTI symptoms on a severity scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst) Write the number down on a piece of paper or in a journal where you can keep track.

  • When did these UTI symptoms show up?

  • What happened that day or the day prior that caused you to feel angry, pissed off, or wanting to blame others?

  • What were you thinking about this experience? (Note all thoughts)

  • After reflection, allow some time to pass, perhaps 30-60 minutes.

  • Then, rate UTI symptoms on a severity scale of 1-10 (10 being the worst). Did the severity shift at all?

It’s important to note: the timing for doing this exercise makes a difference. The earlier you start this process the easier it is to relieve your symptoms. Ideally, you would start to track your emotions and thought patterns at the first hint of a UTI. Symptoms can go away quickly and almost immediately if you use this awareness tool upon first feelings of pain or burning.

Whether you’re a seasoned UTI champion or have only experienced one or two in your life, you’ll never forget that twinge of pain, the first burning feeling, and the immediate dread that follows. That’s the perfect time to do this exercise. If you are in full-blown UTI discomfort, awareness can vastly improve your symptoms, but you may need more support to fully process your emotions and thought patterns energetically.

When we can begin to link the UTI symptoms back to what we were mentally and emotionally experiencing, that awareness can oftentimes be enough for harmonizing the bladder and relieving the uncomfortable symptoms. This insight can lead to the realization that the UTI has produced an opportunity to change patterns within ourselves.

If you are prone to chronic UTIs, or if you are experiencing other bladder challenges like Overactive Bladder, Interstitial Cystitis, or Bladder Incontinence, more than likely your bladder is running on a shaky foundation of specific destructive mental patterns and suppressed emotions that are operating in the background in the subconscious mind built up over the years. (Here’s what that looked like for me.)

These patterns are like cycles that show up again and again because the body is trying to communicate that there is a deeper issue going on. When we can bring these patterns, that we are typically unaware of, into our conscious awareness, we can then start to address them. This allows for deep healing to occur rather than simply managing or masking symptoms and therefore perpetuating the cycle, where the problem isn’t truly addressed at the source.

There are various energetic techniques to process disempowering emotions and subconscious mental patterns which results in the resolution of the root causes of the physical symptoms, in this case, frequent urinary tract infections. You can read more about that in this article.

Sending you comfort and relief,
Anne
